The event being held at UNCW is not part of the Cyber “Challenge” family and is independent of CyberBoat Challenge; while we had explored holding the CyberBoat Challenge at University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) as a host site and academic partner, we were unable to formally agree with certain legal terms which are of central importance to our “Challenges” and we are no longer holding the 2025 CyberBoat Challenge.
UNCW will continue with the planned dates and will host an independent Maritime Cybersecurity Hackathon at its Center for Marine Science in Wilmington, NC. This academic event will feature some of the same instructors and a hands-on learning focus, aligned with UNCW’s educational and workforce development mission.


The CyberBoat Challenge will be a fast-paced, rigorous and exciting event. There are two phases: 1) hands-on learning about marine systems and security 2) mentor guided assessments of maritime systems. Sponsors and organizers bring marine systems to use in demonstrations and assessments.
